Just In: The Brussels Edition

I realize two items aren't a lot - trust me, I was disappointed with myself for only finding two things and nothing more that appealed to me - but I am really happy about both purchases. Brussels simply didn't have much to offer that was differently from Denmark and then, if it was different the styles didn't quite appeal to me. It is okay, my bank account is happy for that choice.

The yellow (the correct and beautiful yellow shade doesn't come out at all, but it is a more vibrant yellow shade) shaft is possibly the purchase I am the happiest about. A few years ago, I gave a similar shaft to my friend for her birthday because it would match her jacket perfectly. It did match rather well, but I regretted not keeping it myself and then later found out it was sold out. Cue the longest hunt for a shaft ever! I have searched high and low, looking for the precise shade of yellow I wanted. It wasn't to be found until I arrived in Brussels and entered a supermarket. I needed to own it - so, I obviously bought it. It is beyond goregous and the quality is surprisingly good considering it is from a supermarket and didn't cost a fortune. Needless to say, I love it.

The second or technically the first thing I bought was Kiehl's Creamy Under Eye Treatment with Avocado in Copenhagen's airport. I had been looking for an eye cream for a while and was, slightly randomly, given two samples to try the cream. A sample can last 7 days, if not more, so I got to really try it out before being forced to take any kind of decision. I really loved it and decided to purchase it in the airport because it was cheaper there, although I need to find some online shop that sells it as it is pricy in Denmark.

Is there a thing of some kind you have sent ages on finding? Have you found it or are you still looking?

Until next time,
Mia♥

Sunday; Sunny Weather

Mmm, the beautiful sunny weather that I left behind in Brussels have been shining upon Denmark for now the past three days and I am loving any moment of it as if I was a sun-deprived Dane (that I actually am!). It has been so great that I have finally my garden chairs and table from the creepy basement, which means I can enjoy the weather even more… unless the weather forecasters are right with their predictions of snow for next weekend. I sincerely hope they are wrong… snow in May is beyond crazy, even in terms of Danish weather. But I dare not think of that too much as the day in general has been great.

I did absolutely no studying, but started the day with downloading a couple of songs and I put on my iPod before heading off to the fitness center at the university. The beauty of a fitness center at university is, not many students or employees come Sunday morning to workout. So I had most of it to myself. I did my routine and then headed back to my apartment to just clean a bit and do some grocery shopping to last me some days, before hitting the shower.

After that… I really have done nothing but enjoying the beautiful weather. My body (and mind) didn’t want to do anything, and this time I actually listened by settling down on a garden chair and enjoying the weather, while working on my tan (my many freckles are showing, yay!)

In these moments I am on the couch, enjoying a glass of rosé wine and… simply continuing with relaxation as I know I have to do some studying tomorrow. But that is tomorrow…

Have you been enjoying this Sunday? Have the weather been great where you are?

Until next time,
Mia ♥

Easter Holidays; Home & Brussels

Lately I have been living up to my name by being quite MIA over the last period. It isn’t because something negative in my life happened, merely that something called Easter came along and gave me over a week’s vacation. Much need vacation, I might add. I haven’t had a vacation since October due to university courses, assignments and exams. So, naturally I decided to pull the plug and just… do nothing at all, well, almost nothing at all.

Just in: Essie's Resort Fling

It is definitely spring here in Denmark, thus I can be allowed to wear far more exciting nail polish than neutral colours. Hurrah! Admittedly, none of the nail polishes from Essie's spring collection 2014 has caught my eye or my attention, but, however, once I glanced over to the resort collection on Essie's website I was beyond sold on two of the polishes. I decided I would buy Resort Fling because it was simply my favourite, but, whoa, it has been the hardest nail polish to find ever.

I searched for it in the shops I knew sold Essie nail polish for around 2 months time, while also asking when they would get this collection home. They never could give me an answer and as I saw the spring collection rolling in (that was released later than the resort collection) I decided to give up on finding it in the shops. Instead I did what probably most would do - I turned to the internet to find the nail polish I just had to own. Luckily, I found it on Amazon and for a cheaper price. Win!

And now... it is finally in my possession (because that doesn't sound creepy at all) and I honestly can't wait to try it on after my long search.

Have you seen Essie's new collection? Do you like their colours for spring?

Until next time,
Mia ♥

Life: Taking A Walk

Lately, I have been feeling quite stressed with the university workload as lecturers tend to be slow at realizing deadlines and uploading assignments, but also I have felt quite homesick as I haven’t really been home since New Year and felt uncertainty about life (and the future) in general. The emotions tend to build up inside me over a longer period before the wall breaks and I find myself overwhelmed with everything and every emotion. It is far from preferred.

Today, I felt the wall quivering violently as there are many deadlines this week before Easter and my neighbour’s barking dogs were really getting to me, along with it being my Dad’s birthday though without me being able to celebrate with him as I have classes and work tomorrow. As it was getting far too much for me, especially with the neighbour’s four dogs barking constantly for four hours without any chance of them stopping, I decided to take a walk… and that was a brilliant idea as a walk always is.

It isn’t the longest route I take, but that isn’t the main point of taking a walk. The fresh air, the exercise and the pause from daily life is main point and something I really, really needed to calm me down today. Generally, it is a way of clearing my head of the many thoughts that float around in my head, but also it helps me focusing on what is important instead of stressing about everything. Sometimes you can’t do everything and that is alright. Sometimes you wanna be places you can’t be, but that doesn’t mean it will always be that way. Sometimes you just have to wait till life comes around.

I suppose it is a kind of meditation. But no matter what it is, it certainly helped… So, I went home and I called my Dad, wishing him a happy birthday with the promise of coming home on Friday, and then turned back to my workload as the dogs had stopped barking (thankfully!) and the future… well, it can definitely wait till another day.

Are you feeling stressed lately? And what do you do to de-stress?

Until next time,
Mia ♥

Beauty: Makeup Brushes Cleaning

I am honestly not good at cleaning my makeup brushes; I simply don’t do it as regularly as I definitely should and, yeah, my brushes probably aren’t liking that. I suppose my failure at cleaning my brushes is because I have never quite gotten the right mixture together and think it is too expensive to buy something already made in shops. Students don’t have a lot of money, so one (or at least I) tends to look for an easy home made remedy. I have tested and tested, and none has been great… but that simply needed to stop.

My brushes were in need for a good cleaning, thus my quest for a good home made remedy started on YouTube. YouTube has endless and endless of options and ideas, though many mention buying something in shops (e.g. MAC) which is simply a no-go for me. However, I came across Michelle Phan’s video who mentioned using extra virgin oil and antibacterial dishwashing soap – both things I have in my apartment – and mixed together it was supposed to be good for your brushes.

As the picture illustrates it looked rather weird mixing them together, but I was up for trying it out. I only own eight brushes – good brushes are so expensive, yikes! – so, the cleaning in total only took 10 minutes by following Michelle’s video.

After the cleaning my brushes, they came to stand ‘head’ down in a random cup so the water can run down and away from the brushes. That is important. If you do it with ‘head’ up, then the water can ruin your brush and the glue holding your brush together.

Ugh, it looks disgusting, but shows my brushes were definitely in need of a good cleaning.

How you do clean your brushes? Do you have any good tips?

Until next time,
Mia
